Downtown Plan for the Future
The Route 126 (Concord Street) Downtown Roadway Improvement Project
will include transportation and streetscape improvements. The majority
of the work will take place on Route 126 (Concord Street-Hollis Street)
from just north of Lincoln Street to just south of Irving Street. Also
included will be portions of Union Avenue, Irving Street, Park Street,
Howard Street, and the Downtown Common. The work will include new
ornamental traffic signals at the Concord Street/Union Avenue and
Hollis Street/Irving Street intersections, and upgraded traffic signals
at the Concord Street/Lincoln Street, Concord Street/Howard Street and
Concord Street/Waverley Street intersections. The work will also
include rehabilitation/reconstruction of roadway pavement,
construction/reconstruction of sidewalks, installation of curbing,
storm water collection system improvements, and ornamental street
lighting. Anticipated streetscape improvements will include special
sidewalk and crosswalk treatments, street trees and street furniture
such as planters and benches.

- Integrate and improve traffic flows in the Downtown.
- Improve environment for pedestrians and bicycles. Identify public infrastructure improvements that will leverage private investments. Revitalize our Central Business District within the context of a long term vision/plan. Support the vision for traffic and urban design plans for the Downtown presented by Cecil/Beta.
- Visual improvement and streetscape designs.
