The Water Department will be replacing aging water mains, valves, and hydrants on the water distribution system at the following locations between May and November 2017.
1. Beaver Court
This project includes installation of 250 feet of 8-inch ductile iron water main, one hydrant, and 3 service connections to the property line, and cutting, capping and abandoning in place of the existing 4-inch 1907 cast iron main.
2. Millwood Street and Blackberry Lane
This project includes installation of a surge valve chamber to mitigate distribution system pressure fluctuations to reduce the risk of water main breaks.
3. Beacon Street
This project includes valve installation on the 8-inch water main on Beacon Street at the intersecting streets between Summer Street and Cochituate Road to improve system operational flexibility.
4. Barbieri School
This project includes installation of 80 feet of 8-inch ductile iron main and valves from the water main loop serving Barbieri School to connect the loop to the existing 8-inch water main on South Road to provide a redundant water supply to the school.
5. Hastings Street (between Beacon Street and Bantry Road)
This project includes replacement of the existing 6-inch cast iron water main installed in 1926 with 1300 feet of 8-inch ductile iron main, valves, four hydrants, and approximately 40 service connections to the property line.
6. Millwood Circle (between Millwood Street and Brook Meadow Circle)
This project includes replacement of the existing 2-inch cast iron main installed in 1955 with 400 feet of 8-inch ductile iron main, valves, and 11 service connections to the property line.
